Route: Take the toll road (Mex 1-D) south from Rosarito toward Ensenada. Pass Puerto Nuevo and La Fonda, exit at Ruta del Vino / Highway 3. Follow inland to km 70. Two toll booths, ~$5 USD.

Rosarito and Puerto Nuevo are the beach side. Valle de Guadalupe is the mountain side. Connected by the toll road, easily doable in a single day. Many of our riders are staying on the coast and drive inland for a morning ride.

The drive is stunning — you start with ocean views, the road cuts through canyons, and suddenly you're in wine country surrounded by vineyards and mountains. Dramatic landscape shift in under an hour.

A Day Trip from Rosarito

An hour inland and you're in a different world. Here's how a typical day looks:

8:00 AM — Leave Rosarito, take the toll road south

8:30 AM — Pass Puerto Nuevo, exit at Ruta del Vino / Highway 3

9:00 AM — Arrive at base, gear up, start training

9:30 AM – 1:30 PM — Ride (full or half-day)

2:00 PM — Lunch at a Valle winery or restaurant

3:30 PM — Back in Rosarito for sunset on the beach

Morning on a dirt bike, afternoon with your feet in the sand. Close enough to do both without rushing either.

The Adventure Side of Your Rosarito Trip

Rosarito's adventure scene is beach-oriented: surfing, jet skis, ATVs on sand flats. These are fun but flat terrain at low speed. If you want elevation, technical terrain, and mountain views that stretch to the Pacific — the trails are in the mountains behind you.

Our trails take you through Sierra foothills with views from the valley floor to the coastline. The same beach you were on that morning — except now you're looking down at it from a ridgeline on a dirt bike.

Weekend combo: Friday night in Rosarito (lobster in Puerto Nuevo). Saturday morning, ride in Valle. Saturday afternoon, hit a winery. Sunday, drive home. Complete Baja weekend: ocean, mountains, vineyards, world-class food.

Practical Details

Toll road vs free road: The toll road (Mex 1-D) is faster, smoother, and safer — worth the ~$5 USD in tolls.

What to bring: Long pants, closed-toe shoes (boots preferred), sunscreen. We provide all riding gear.

Frequently Asked Questions — Rosarito

Valle de Guadalupe is about 60 minutes from Rosarito. Head south on Highway 1D (toll road) past La Mision, then take the turnoff onto Highway 3 heading inland toward Tecate. The route climbs from the coast into the valley — you will see vineyards start to appear about 15 minutes before you arrive.

Definitely. A common plan is to ride in the morning (arrive at our base by 8:30 AM, ride until noon), then head back to Rosarito for lunch on the beach. Alternatively, some visitors spend the morning at the beach and book an afternoon ride starting at 2:00 PM. Either way works — the 60-minute drive makes both activities possible in one day.

Very different terrain. The Rosarito coastline is sandy and flat. Valle de Guadalupe sits at 350 meters elevation with rocky canyons, ridgelines, and hard-packed desert trails through private ranch land. The riding here is real single-track mountain terrain — not the sandy beach loops you might find closer to the coast.

We do not have fixed packages, but we regularly set up two-day itineraries for groups staying in Rosarito. A typical weekend: Saturday morning ride in the valley, lunch at a winery, back to Rosarito for the evening. Sunday free for the beach. Contact us and we will help plan the timing.

Take the toll road (Highway 1D) south from Rosarito. About 30 minutes down, look for the Highway 3 turnoff toward Tecate and Valle de Guadalupe. Follow the Ruta del Vino signs from there. The whole drive is paved and well-signed. Uber and DiDi also operate in Rosarito if you prefer not to drive.

Rosarito + Dirt Bikes = The Perfect Baja Weekend

The most popular play for Rosarito visitors is the two-day combo: beach on Friday or Saturday, dirt bikes on the other day. The logistics work perfectly — Rosarito's beach hotels, Puerto Nuevo's lobster restaurants, and Valle de Guadalupe's wine country are all within an hour of each other. You can fit an entire Baja highlight reel into 48 hours.

Our typical Rosarito rider books a morning slot. They drive the scenic coastal highway south, turn inland at the Ruta del Vino exit, and arrive at our base by 9 or 10 AM. After training and a 2-3 hour ride, they have the entire afternoon for wine tasting, lunch at Finca Altozano or Fauna, and the drive back to Rosarito for sunset tacos on the beach.

If you're staying at Playa La Misión — increasingly popular with San Diego visitors — you're even closer. La Misión to our base is a 25-minute drive straight inland. That makes it the second-closest starting point after Ensenada. See our La Misión guide for the specific route.
